The following is planned as a replacement for:

  • community mods map pack client mods
  • system sharing client mod
  • system sharing server

File:Gold-rank-icon.png Community Maps

New community maps will be:

  • uniquely identifiable using identifiers and versions similar to mods
  • searchable
  • loaded with no installation required (replacing system sharing server)
  • downloadable to file system with no mod installation required (if allowed by author)
  • grouped as map collections with no installation required (replacing map pack client mods)

Map info will be extracted from maps to improve user interface performance (unlike system sharing that currently loads full map to display summary).

Community Maps will add user interface in the new game lobby for hosts and players to:

  • search for maps
  • filter by game type, number of players, author, etc
  • load or download maps (based on author permissions)
  • mark as favourites
  • show recently played
  • show recommended
  • allow map suggestions to host by players

Hooks will be added for special handling of tournament maps.

Community Maps will add user interface for map makers to:

  • specify new properties and extended descriptions
  • edit landing zones rules

Map scenarios are also planned for map makers to specify custom landing zones for:

  • FFA vs shared team vs unshared team
  • number of players

Scenarios will be auto selected in new game lobby based on game type and number of players.
